Zaikan Hara (1884-1957)


 Japanese painter. Second son of Zaizen Hara.
Succeeded the fifth generation of the Hara Sect.
Graduated from Kyoto University of Fine Arts.

At the end of the Meiji era, his father Zaizen was commissioned
to create a sliding screen painting for the Shinden Hall of Ninna-ji Temple,
and he assisted him as an assistant, completing it in 1914.

In 1936, to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of his founder Zaizen,
he held the "Exhibition of Calligraphy by Zaizen 100 Years of Memorial Service."

He had many connections with former nobles and temples,
and many of his posthumous works are found in these.

He passed away in 1957 at the age of 73.
